The Wreaths of Rita Spataro

March 1st – March 31st

Artist Statement:

Hi, thanks for checking out some of the samples of my work!  I’m Rita Spataro. I began designing and creating wreaths a little over 5 years ago. My designs have certainly become grander as the years have gone by, and I’ve had more time to develop my craft. I love to add a “WOW” factor to my creations, sometimes on the side of whimsical, other times with a touch of elegance or bling. Instead of walking into a home decor store or unique boutique and looking at items to decorate my home, I instantly think “how can I incorporate that into a wreath?” I love to embellish with beautiful ribbons, and have quite the collection. It’s kind of an addiction of mine. I can’t pass by a gorgeous ribbon without adding it to my stash. I take joy in creating one-of-a-kind pieces.

Last Fall, I traveled to Texas to attend a “Wreath Retreat” with many other wreath designers from all over the country.  Hard to believe, but there is actually a pretty significant wreath makers community!  It was such a treat to hang out with a group of kindred spirits, not to mention the shopping at the local designer supply warehouse!  Did I mention I like shopping for wreath supplies as much as I do making them?

I wondered if like any other hobby, I’d lose interest over time, but 5+ years later, that has yet to happen … and my passion only keeps growing!

About the Artist:

Rita grew up in Medford, MA and moved to Middleton 27 years ago. She recalls having breakfast on the weekends at the then, “Kitchen Window”, which was adjacent to Richardson’s and thinking how she loved the country feel of this small town. Having probably more cows than people at that time was a bonus! When it came time to move to a larger home once she and her husband Philip (of 36 years) started their family, she instantly recalled the little town she loved so much, and decided to raise her family here. Rita has two young adult sons, Matthew and Jake, and a rambunctious toddler, named Riley … a 1 year old Golden Retriever!  In addition to her wreath making business, Rita also works full-time running operations and finance for an entrepreneur, as well as supporting a few small businesses with their bookkeeping needs.
