Contest Guidelines

Celebrate National Poetry Month this April by participating in the Flint Public Library’s Poetry Contest! All ages are invited to submit their original poems for the chance to win an awesome prize. Not a poet? Not a problem! You can still participate by voting for your favorite poems and sharing the love of literature!

Submissions will be accepted between Friday, April 1st at 10AM and Wednesday, April 13th at 8PM. You may submit your poem online by emailing cpope@flintpublib.org, or in person at the main library circulation desk. You may only enter one original poem (it can be any length or form), and your submission should include your name, age, and phone number, as well as the title or first line of the poem.

All submissions will be displayed anonymously in person at the library and on our website beginning Tuesday, April 19th at 10AM. There will be three categories: children, teens, and adults. Children’s poems will be displayed in the Children’s Room, teen poems will be displayed in the Teen Area, and adult poems will be displayed on the display shelf located near the main circulation desk. Voting will take place between Tuesday, April 19th at 10AM and Friday, April 29th at 4PM, and may be done in person at the library or on our website. You are only allowed one vote per category.

On Friday, April 29th at 5pm, we will announce the winners on our Facebook page, Instagram, and website. There will be one winner per category.

The prize for the children’s poetry category is a $20 gift card to Richardson’s Ice Cream, the prize for the teen poetry category is a $25 gift card to Amazon, and the prize for the adult category is a $25 gift card to Maggie’s Farm! Thank you to the Friends of the Flint for sponsoring this program.
